Wednesday's Blog

Welcome to my new regular ‘Wednesday Blog’

First of all, hi to everyone out there. I have been missing from chat for the last couple of months due to a house move. We have moved in and settled down, but you would not believe how long it takes for the telephone company and our ISP provider to get their act together so that we can have phone/internet access at a new build house. The phone has been active for 4 weeks now and after a complete mess-up just over a week ago, we (hopefully) will have internet access on Friday 5th September – If all goes to plan I hope to be in chat sometime over the weekend, but all I will say is, don’t hold your breath!!

As well as family history, I have a great interest in all forms of history, including local history. The small Co Armagh town I have moved to was previously involved in the Irish linen industry. In fact, the old mill that closed a few years ago is still standing and is less than 100 metres from our new house. According to Wikipedia, the town had a population of 3,050 on census night 2001.

So, in view of the size, it was more in hope than expectation that I did a Google search for any detailed history of the town.

I was, however, surprised to find the very interesting Sinton Family Tree. The site includes a wealth of information including cemetery transcriptions (covering whole graveyards - not just Sinton names), Quaker related items, book transcriptions, maps, town directories and photographs as well as a detailed history of the Sinton family who once owned the mill.

I am sure Just_M will be interested in adding this site to the Looking 4 Kin links.

I have no family in the area and came across this site by chance ... are there any interesting sites in your home area that could be passed on for addition to the links?

I will leave you with the usual ‘bits and pieces’ that come at the end of the daily blog while I think about what I can post next week!
