Hi Elizabeth. Yes James did live in Ireland, he was born in Belfast. He married Evelyn Maud Wilson she was from Armagh. James had 2 children, my husband Roy and his brother Desmond both still alive. We do know that James father was Robert and we think he was married to a Minnie McDowell but did hear that there may have been a second wife. We would love to find out a little more of James father Robert. I appreciate you taking an interest. Thank you
Val

I am pedaling fast but going no where....now I did find a few maybes at LDS Beta Search.. thing is we don't have enough clues..so back to square 1, what does your husband know about his parents, he was James son , correct, did he ever meet his grandparents, where did they live? also ask his brother, and or Lillian, what became of her, when was Roys brother and sister born?
your going to have to pick their brains a bit.

Permalink Reply by Val on April 19, 2011 at 1:54am Sorry I havent replied sooner. Their father James didnt know much about his dad. James left home at an early age and joined the Army way before he was allowed hence there being nothing to go on. Roy and Des didnt meet his Dunbar grandfather so no leads there. James sister Lillian is now dead and so is their brother Robert so cannot ask them. I do appreciate all your efforts, but dont really think we are going to get very far with this. Sorry I cannot offer anymore information as there isnt any.
Thanks again Val

In the 1911 Census I have found a Robert and Minnie Dunbar living in Mill Street, Newtownards, County Down, which is just about 20 miles from Belfast. The only children are Elizabeth 8, Robert 5, and John 2.
Permalink Reply by Val on April 19, 2011 at 4:57am Hi Shirlee, These could have been James brothers and Sister. I think James would have been born in 1911 so may not show on the census. Robert and Minnie certainly could be James mum and dad. Didnt know about John though. Wow you are being a great help. Thank you so much. Val
