Searching for family in Bavaria, I found Johann Ochs b. 27 Mar 1834. His parents are/were Heinrich Jacob Ochs and Anna Maria Kraemer. While searching for Heinrich and marriage records to Anna Maria, I found a marriage between Heinrich and a Elisabetha Krähmer. Can she be the same person? I also have a marriage date for Heinrich and Anna Maria as 5 Sept 1832 but I cannot find proof of that. Not exactly sure where I even got that info. can anyone help clear this mess up?

Not having the same Chrisian name is a problem but the surname is the same. If you do not use an umlaut then to get the same vowel sound ae would be substituted. The other thing to bear in mind is that Germans always use their second name so Anna Marie was probably referred to as Marie. This does not normally apply to certificates but would apply to census returns and between family members. You do need to know the parish in order to find their marriage certificate. I encountered this problem when one person was not born in the same village that he married in. There doesn't seem to be any central archives. Good luck. Jenny

Permalink Reply by Bill on March 10, 2012 at 9:18pm Thanks. I did notice that most of the records pertaining to marriages or births of their children, she was referred to as Marie or Maria. But having hard time finding their marriage record. I found one for and Elisabetha, just wondering if that could be her given name and Anna Maria being a middle name. Or perhaps something else.
