Hi

I am looking for my Great Uncle Alexander McMeekin. His sister was my grandmother Mary, and he had another two sisters, Jean and Elizabeth.

The family is from Lennoxtown, Stirlingshire, Scotland. All I know is that he went to Canada - but I have no idea where, or whether he married and had children. I would like to know if I have any Canadian relations.

He was still living in Lennoxtown at the time of his father's death because he was the informant on the death certificate...this was in 1950.

I'm not 100% certain but I think he was born about 1908.

Father - Alexander McMeekin

Mother - Elizabeth Dewar

Can anybody help?

Oh wow! Such a quick response, thank you so much Lorraine.
Your welcome, I just happen to open my e-mail and thought I would check theese names.
I will make a little search to see if I can find a obituary for Alexander in BC.
I just send a e-mail to the Burnaby library, with all the information.

Lets wait and see !!!
Thanks so much for your help Lorraine. I got to thinking that given his age before he left for Canada there was a good chance he married Elizabeth in Scotland. With your information I've been able to find their marriage and the name of Elizabeth's parents. They were married in 1930 in Kirkintilloch. Elizabeth's parents were James Mclachlan and Jeanie Anderson.

Fingers crossed the library may have something.
Your welcome.

Happy to hear you found more information.
I had good results in the past to find obituaries at librairies. Lets hope this is one of them.
Would you know the family religion ?
It's likely to be Church of Scotland...Presbyterian, that is my father and my grandmother's religion.
Ok, Presbyterian will help.

Thank you.
I received an answer:

Sorry, we have searched in both the Vancouver Sun and The Province newspapers from August 19th-30th, 1985 and are unable to find an obituary for Alexander McMeekin.

I wrote back and asked him if they had any idea where I could direct my next search.
I made a search in regions close to Barnaby and I found in the phone direstory:

Alexander McMeekin
6245 Linton Ave
Port Alberni, BC V9Y 8S9
(250) 723-9341 (250) 723-9341

I know it's far fetch but this is the way I find people.
What I did for one of the persons I was looking for, I wrote a letter, saying that I was trying to locate a relatives.
I wouldn't be surprise that this person is a descendant.
That's a shame there's no obituary to be found, hopefully he will come up with another suggestion. Your find from the directory is great - hopefully they are related somehow. So you think I should write them?
