Hi Sandra:

Could this be him, only I thought I read that you said he was born in England this doesn't say that, it says his mothers name is Mary which caught my eye since your great-grandfather's war docs say his wife was Mary . If you think this could be him it could help since it has an address. There is another Arthur B Curtis that I keep finding info on his middle name is Belmont so its not your Grandfather maybe its him. I'm hoping its the right one since it has names and address that could help you with your search. Donna

Hi Donna,

Yes I think it could be him! We know he did go to the USA before the war, and then went back to Canada in order to enlist. So that fits in nicely.

Although we thought he was married before my Nan, and assumed he was divorced also, which only gives him around 5-6 years to fit that in before he was in England. And looking at this he may have married in USA then, it certainly does give me another avenue to look at.

I've just had another look at this and checked out North Ave in Winthrop, and it says it is off of Winthrop Street, my Mum remembers him saying the lived off or on Winthrop Street somewhere in Mass, so it is all tying in nicely.

Oh Good, the little devil moved around a bit haha so that might explain why your having a hard time finding him. Hopfully someone will reply to the letters I sent and it will add another piece to the puzzle. Cross your fingers :)

Hi Sandra: This is the reply we got from the funeral home below (hope the others reply as quick) now it didn't provide as much info as I had hoped for but at least we have a date of birth now which will help when looking for military records.

I must say this is the first time I have found someone and their body was donated to Science. I found this very interesting since I worked in a Hospital for over 12 years and we had one or two people over that time that donated their body to science but the University would pick the patient up right from the Hospital not from the funeral home. They must have had a service first.

Let me see Tillsonbury, Ontario has a newspaper and maybe a obit was placed in that paper.

The date of birth for Arthur Burnett Curtis is February 27, 1917. He was born in Boston, Mass. USA. His body was donated to science.

The man from the legion where Arthur was a member contacted me yesterday evening.

He actually apologized to me for not having any information on him since he has so much respect for veterans and didn’t want to come across as not being respectful, of course I told him he had no need to apoligized, he was a a very nice man he suggested I contact the address below he finds these people extremely helpful and said that they just might be able to provide a address or family info for you, I will try and apply there for you if you like I’m not sure if they will provide me with any information since I’m not family but I’ll give it a try if you like I really don’t mind. But just in case you want to check it out or try yourself the web page and address is below. Once we get a little more info I can help from this end to find family for you.

There is an address for his mother in Winthrop, Mass so that might be right.

Hi Sandra: I just wanted to update you I've called the Last Post people in the Toronto office this morning and they had not record of Arthur so maybe the info was from another office so I'll try again tomorrow, its family day here in Toronto its a holiday for some offices and the others are not open or at least didn't reply to me. I'll keep you up to date.

Its me again I just got another reply from a very nice man from New Brunswick he's been doing some digging he found other name under that same service number he told me thats very common. He also suggested the War Archives of Canada and he said that I can apply even know I'm not related he said the records provide a lot of info and its not expensive its like .10 a copy thats nothing. I don't mind doing it I learn from every thing I do so this will be another learning experience haha, please let me know if this is what you want to do. Did we get a date of birth for him that will help the funeral home should have that I can call them if they didn't give that to us. Please let me know what you would like to do.

The date of birth the funeral home gave you was Feb 27th 1917, if you don't mind applying then that would be great thanks, and please let me if I need to send you anything as would hate for you to be out of pocket for this.

No problem Sandra consider it done I'll send it out this weekend and let you know, I have so many e-mails that I couldn't find the funeral home one so thanks for giving me the date of birth again.

I just noticed his date of birth is tomorrow maybe just thought I would mention that :)

I'll let you know as soon as something comes in.
