My mother's maiden was Roney. She says the family tradition is that the Roneys were from County Down. Also she says there was a set of brothers that first came and they were named Rooney but they had a fallinf out and one droped on "O" from his name and he is our ancestor.
But, when I did a general search in Ireland, County Down I found both Roney and Rooney.
Anyway, I am trying to find where exactly in County Down my ancestors lived and the names of the first ones to America.
Also, I found my Sturgeon family, Ulster Scots, living in County Down.

Can anyone help me find these or direct me to a good place to start my search??
