Helping hands helping one another with our family history & genealogy research.
Hi,
My name is Gay and I live in Melbourne Australia. I am looking to find the parents of Thomas Kingshott, who I thought was from West Sussex, but I find he may have been born in Canford Hampshire. He was born in 1722 and died in 1783. He married Ann Bailey 1n 1752 in Greatham, Hampshire and they had one son, Francis in 1753. Ann died possibly in childbirth or a lttle later. There were Kingshotts in Sussex as well. I can't go any further back on Thomas until I find his parents. Can anyone help put me in the right direction to find out his parents please??
Thanks, and keep up the good work. Gay

You mention only one son though, Francis? I have been searching using variations of the surname and found these following records, they are the only ones I can find relating to the time period and name? you are amazing! You must know just where to go! Firstly, Ann Bailey spelling is really Ann Bayly (as far as I know), and she was supposed to have died during or soon after the birth of Francis. You have now put a different view on the matter. Kingshott was also written as Kinshot, Kingett, Kinget, depending on the persons knowledge of writing and spelling. Maybe she lived longer and had more children. She was born in Fernhurst W. Sussex, and I mispelled Thomas' birthplace, as in the Marriage Info it says he is described as a "Bachelor of Conford near Bramshott, Hampshire". They were married in Greatham 1752, and had Francis 1753.
Could Thomas have married another Ann ? or did she not die after Francis?
How could I get the info on Thomas birth in Hampshire? Could the Genealogical society have this information?
Thanks for any help you can give me on either Thomas or Ann.
Regards Gay

I still can't find anything for Thomas. . . . . . . but looky looky, what's this? I have no idea if this is your man or not. But, you'll need to investigate it somehow?

And the plot thickens!!! Late yesterday, I wa gobsmacked to find that the Legg Family Tree (RogerLegg90), has Thomas and Ann having Francis 1753, Anne 1754, Nicholas,1756, Sarah 1759, -- Then in 1764 married a Mary Huntingford, and had Thomas 1764 (married Sarah Skelton), Mary 1768 (possibly died), William 1778 (died soon after), Thomas 1779 ??? (he married Ann Unknown and had a son John 1804) & Mary 1781. The 2 Thomas' confuse me and maybe there were 2 families of that name in Bramshott. I was too tired last night to go any further on the Hampshire Baptism/ Marriage/Genealogical site, but will try to do so in the next few days. I have tried to look for Ann's death information. Still the biggest problem for me is finding who Thomas' parents were, and trying to trace back from there.
The records I hold for Thomas and Ann have come from Jan Brian Kingshott, who has done a lot of research into the Kingshott families in England and comes from Dover. He maintains that Thomas did marry Ann Bayly and had Francis who I am descended from. He is trying to prove that he is from that line of Kingshotts same as me. He has a website, which is great and you might like to have a look at that. Just type in his name. Thank you for all your help. Regards Gay
