Visiting Manchester
I will be visiting Manchester soon for the first time, from the U.S. I'd like to get recommendations for top venues to visit for someone interested in researching family history. Family names include Dean, Royle, Sharples, and Sherlock. I'm also interested in the cotton mills since some of my ancestors were fustian cutters in the areas of Cadishead and Irlam. Looking forward to seeing your suggestions. Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I never heard from anyone but I had a wonderful albeit brief visit to Manchester and Eccles. I was able to do a small amount of research at the Eccles History Library at the University and at Eliot House in Manchester. I finally confirmed my second great grandfather's birthdate and his parents' marriage in Eccles. I also found some possible leads about my Royle second great grandmother but there is much research ahead of me. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to Irlam or Cadishead. They will have to wait to a future trip.

That is fabulous news, that you are a little further ahead in your family searches...I want to do same and go to Shropshire one day...to see the family buildings and also visit archives, I'd need months and a lottery win, methinks...!
