Thank you, What is Alkborough?  Another village?  I saw the church records but it seems a little difficult accessing them.  I do realize that not all records have been uploaded onto websites, however I am still having trouble finding proof of my findings.  With a name like John Walker, it's like finding a needle in a haystack.  Any ideas as to which direction I could follow?

Alkborough is a village in the north of Lincolnshire and a few miles north Crosby:

Well considering that both Walker is common surname in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, as you can look in the Yorkshire and Humber records also, If you provide some more details for John Walker Maybe I could have a look for you.

Ok, Here is what I have, as I have said there really is no proof.  John Walker b. 28 Aug 1814 in (either) Alkborough or Crosby, Lincolnshire, England.  Possible father Joseph Walker, mother Mary Garton.  Marriage to Anne Wright b. 20 May 1815 in Belton, Lincolnshire, England.  Married in Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1938.

Quick question:  Do you know whether the town or village of Lincoln in Lincolnshire was a sort of market place or a more bustling city or town back in the 1800's?  If my info is correct, then John came from a village more north and Anne a little more south and Lincoln is right in the middle of each. Grantham is only 2 or 3 miles away from Belton. It could've been Anne's parish, and I figured they would marry in her parrish rather than his.

Hi Bill, 

To answer your question as per the indexes would have been a village in the parish mentioned as in the Wikipedia Entries for each location.

Have you got their marriage certificate or Licence?, As this would clarify the correct location parish, and how did you get the information for Alkbourough & Crosby? as im currently looking on the indexes for marriages.

On FreeBMD.org.uk has the marriage for John Walker Dec 1838 Grantham, Lincolnshire, England 14 640 I haven't found a reference under name of Anne Wright so unsure where to find it under Lincolnshire or Leicestershire as the registration district of Grantham covers these areas.

This would help further to identify sometimes the parish of the church is taken as the primary location and not the location of the individual as you go further back and the linkage of location of marriage to the Birth record can sometimes be unclear or uncertain.

Hi Bill,

I did find one John Walker, Born Alkborough, Haven't found any born at Crosby at the current time.

birth: 27 Aug 1814
christening: 28 Aug 1814 Alkborough, Lincoln, England
parents: Joseph Walker, Mary

His place of birth changes 2 times over the course of the census returns 1841 (He's in Froddingham) then Born Alkborough in 1851 and Crosby in 1862

I found his Parents Joseph Walker & Mary Alive on the 1841 Census in Crosby, Frodingham, Lincolnshire, England, His Fathers occupations as was also an Ag Lab they used to move around abit in the same region around market centers like Frodingham. If you would like a copy of the 1841 census return Let me know happy to send it over.

I would love to have copies of anything I  can get a hold of.  Where did you find the birth and christening of John Walker that says he was born in Alkborough?  According to the 1861 Census it says he was born in Crosby.  Do you now how the census were taken?  Were there forms that each family filled out or did a government official visit each family?  Would there be any benefits of "lying" about place of birth? Or could it just have been misinformation?  Sorry for the barage of questions.

Hi Bill

I wouldn't call it lying they are apart of the same governed district it would be the place at the time and the census returns were written and collected by numerators whom came door knocking the census event night. 

They would have said I hailed from Alkbourough but as a child would have been born a town over not lying it would be like if you were asked the question Mary had a little lamb, Did Mary eat the lamb by having lamb shanks, it looks over time the census questions became less ambiguous and more defined as per the reasoning as they get better in information snapshots in time as it is easier to then trace back i.e. from 1911 in some cases.

The first census hand written by our ancestors was the 1911 census and they were returned by mail or collected by a collector in some countries.

I sourced the christening from Familysearch.org as it looks to be not apart of the indexes on ancestry.
