My G G Grandfather and his brother were raised at 21 Clarendon St, Padington, London. The head of the household in 1881 was William J and Margaret Adams. This is strange because their mother was living at 86 Upper Tollington in Hornsey. I was wondering if the Adams were running an orphanage.

Sidney Huddstone (sic) in 1881 gave his birthplace as Paddington and was a boarder, implying that someone was paying for him to stay with the Adams. As there was another baby boarder with them, plus a son and a grandson they might have been running some sort of informal boarding house for children.

There's a baptism at St Mary Magdalene, Paddington on 12 Oct 1876 of Sidney Edward Huddlestone, son of Charlotte Huddlestone of 14 Randogh? Rd, single woman. Do you have his birth certificate? What's the evidence that Charlotte Theresa Huddlestone from Hornsey was his mother? As opposed to, say, Charlotte Huddlestone 16 b Newark, Notts who was living in Kentish Town in 1871. Or even Charlotte Huddlestone housemaid 28 b Nottingham living in Randolph Crescent, Paddington in 1891 - she might be a bit young to have had a son in 1876, but servant's ages are not always accurate and the address looks very close to the address of the mother of Sidney at his baptism.

What was the name of the brother - there was only the one Huddlestone with the Adams in 1881?

David
Thanks for your response David. Sidney and his brother, Randolph were both living with William Adams in the 1891 census. I don't have a birth certificate for Sidney but I have been in contact with a member of Randolph's family who have given me the info about Sidney and his family.
