Hi

I have my ancestors wedding record in Edinburgh and it has my 3x gt grandmother Mary Thomson's address at the time and as "formerly of 17 Dacre St Westminster. and Her father Robert Thomson an "Acccoutrement Maker from 17 Dacre St Westminster"

Would this be Westminster London, or is there a Westminster in Scotland? I haven't been able to find any information on theses two so maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Would appreciate any help with this.

I looked up Acccoutrement Maker = Supplier or maker of Military Clothing and Accessories

Not much help I know, but never heard of the above address in Edinburgh.

When I Google the address it comes up with lots of pubs and dacre Street in Westminster in London, there is a Thomson on 1841 census at Dacre Street, St. Margarets, Westminster, Middlesex just to confuse the issue even more. The ages of  boys don't make sense, although they could be other relations. But I am not sure

Robert THOMPSON (45) sadler (My Robert was a saddler on Mary's death cert.)
Jane THOMPSON (45)
John THOMPSPON (20) Co Painter [coach painter?]
Robert THOMPSON (30) ditto

All born Scotland

Unfortunately, the 1841 English census doesn't give relatiionships within the household.

I think I will shelve this one for the time being.

Thanks for your help anyway

Don't forget that in 1841 ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 below, so 45 could be an actual age of 49. It would certainly work for John and could also work for Robert, although I see that you've been given birth details on another board
Thanks David, I never knew about the rounding down of ages, wonder why they did that.

It has taken a few years but I just found Mary's birth record on Scotland's People.

This looks like the family. Or just coincidence.

Mary's father was indeed Robert Thomson saddler and her mother was Jane Allan (not Ellen Fleming as written on her death record). Maybe one of them remarried Ellen could have been Jane's pet name taken from her maiden name).

There were four children that I could find so far: John b.1819, Robert b.1820,  Mary Ann, 1822, and Elizabeth b.1824 all born in St Cuthberts, Midlothian

All of the records I found on Scotland's People 'Thomson' is the common spelling. Although some later records show 'Thompson'
