Hello Everyone!

I am searching in Tippah County for a two people.  Wesley Allen Pool(e) b. 1827; and his daughter Martha A.S. Pool(e) b. 1848-1849

Wesley Pool(e) supposedly died around 1852 when he was part of a Wagon Train going to California with other Tippah residents.

I've been told now by 2 different sources that there was a newspaper article reporting that the wagon train was attacked and a list of the dead was reported.  Wesley Pool(e)s name was among the dead.  (I have not found this newspaper article yet, but will be writing to the library in Ripley about it.)  I'm looking for any more information on him after 1852.

Wesley's daughter Martha is listed in Probate records, and in January 1857 she had Simon R. Spight appointed as her guardian.  I can find no record of her after that.  I would like to find out what happened to her and any descendants she may have.

The reason that I am looking for information on these two people is that I do not believe that Wesley Allen Pool(e) died in 1852.  I believe that he survived the attack, just as another person that left with that group survived.  Lavina Rogers Cartwright and her husband were in that group and Lavina survived and reappeared in Tippah to marry in 1858 and have more children.

I believe and am trying to prove that Wesley Allen Pool(e) did survive and fathered another child in 1855 that was named Wesley Allen Pool(e) Jr. - My great great grandfather.

My gggrandfather was referred to as Dude Pool and Dude Jones.  He grew up as Wesley Allen Jones as he lived with J.J. Jones and his wife Lavina Rogers Cartwright Jones, as seen on the 1860 and 1870 census records.  He knew that he was born as Wesley Allen Poole, Jr but took the name Jones as he was raised by JJ Jones.  On his marriage license he signed his name W.A. Jones, Jr.  I found this interesting since he could not be a Junior as a Jones!

I've recently had my own father submit a DNA sample for research for the Pool(e)-Pettypool(e) projects and we're waiting (patiently) for the results.  I'm hoping that we can prove that we are from the Pool(e) line and hopefully can prove that Wesley Allen Pool(e) Senior survived the attack.

If anyone finds any information on Wesley Allen Pool(e) and his daughter Martha A.S. Pool(e) please let me know!

Thanks!
