Hi, My husbands family from Halifax NS, but his great grandmother came from Newfoundland, and that is where the trail ends, we know that his family is Inuit but we can not find any records from before Newfoundland. If anyone could help that would be great

Thank you

Can you tell us a bit about her

My husbands grandmother name is Joan Kenny, but her grandmother I believe is Jessy Snook, I know she is buried in Halifax some where, she came from Newfoundland, and that is all we know.

Do you have any idea about when she was born?

When she died?

Who she married?

Who her children were?

There is not a lot of information to go on here. You have not even given a basic timeline. ... A brief outline of family known just prior to her, whom she married etc. helps ( You are saying this is her maiden name? To whom was she married?)   otherwise all we can do its point to some areas which might help you. This article points to Inuit living at Snook's cove in Labrador...but of course this does not mean there were Snook families there.

From this family history, the Snooks/Snook patriarch came from England in the late 1700's. Whether or not he married an Inuit woman would have to be researched. Of course an offspring may have married an Inuit lady as well.

There was also a John Snook who arrived NFLD. mid 1800s http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.canada.newfoundland.w...

There were several in fortune Bay 20th century http://nl.canadagenweb.org/fbhb_35cen_sagonaisland.htm

Not knowing when the marriage may have taken place, this may be too recent, but because I found it, I am posting it, as some onfo may help others...Methodist Missionary 1890/1891has a Jessie Snook going to Alexander Street Sunday School

This site has a Jessie Snook born feb 1st 1884 Fortune Bay, parents James P. Snook & Jane  http://gedcomlibrary.com/gedcoms/v209769.ged

The birth of a sister has more info Lillian Jane Major Snook with parents James Philip Snook (Deceased) and Jane Lake

I won't bother putting anything else up...but had found that great resource and thought I'd follow it through.

Although they might not be an answer to the query ( still no dates ever given) , I found the family mentioned above now living & having more childre in Toronto Ontario...so am posting for anyone interested in this family. Christenings here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JX1D-W3R

also a Herbert Benjamin was born Newfoundland 1877 and a Rosamond Sarah Freeman Snook in 1881 Millicent in 1883, Jessie "Snowden" Snook in 1884 ( Other Snook & Lake listed on page)

James Philip Snook died Toronto Ontario...born c. 1845 Nfld his father listed as Johnathon although death info not always reliable  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JX1D-W3R

1901 no Jessie in household http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census/ViewFrame.jsp?id=74419&...

Oddly James Philip was already listed as deceased in one of those christenings and yet he seems alive and well unless there is a mirror family here...

Another odd thing is that jessie was in that school 1889, yet she's not listed on census in *1891 Ontario*

Who knows...we could be looking for a sister to James as well for whom he named his daughter...without an age it is anyone's guess ....
