George Thames
Special to the Journal
HAWTHORNE — George W.
Thames, 55, died Sunday in a
lawthorne hospital. He was
born Sept. 27, 1915 in Selma
Camp, La. He came to Hawhorne
in 1951 from Louisiana
and worked as a heavy equipment
operator. Three years ago he purchased
the Monarch Motel and Cafe
which he had been operating.
He is survived by his wife
Thclma and son Paul; four sisters,
Viola Olgcsby of Kansas
ity, Kan., Ruby Roberts of Colfax,
La., Gertrude Sanford of
Ferriday, La. and Alice Smith
of Alexandra, La.; two brothers,
James A. of Kansas City,
Kan., and Jesse of Columbia,
La.
A funeral will be held Thursday
at 2 p.m. at the Hawthorne
Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. BcrnaiY Ford of the First
Baptist Church officiating. Military
graveside services will follow
in the Hawthorne Cemetery
