Looking for any information on John McKane. He worked at the Mercantile Bank of Halifx in Miramichi. My search is did he own any newspapers in New Brunswick? Where was his summer home in New Brunswick. Thanks for any help.

This researcher has found that he was of Irish origins but came from Fife Scotland in 1890 and that he was acting Manager at the bank...Seems after a jaunt out to Nevada ( gold ) he moved back to Miramichi with some big money  "At the height of his short-lived career as a financier he owned both the Daily Telegraph and the Evening Times of Saint John."

So it seems he owned 2 newspapers..

John McKane of Miramichi - Mini Bio

Here is a glowing newspaper article about him and his mining success, and mentions Tonopath Nevada

St John Daily Sun - Nov. 1905       Photo of Mrs. John Mckane?

Sounds as though he may never have married until later...Tried to delete the above link but it was too late, sorry...

His success in Nevada   1904 Nevada Bonanza   1930 Tonopah - must have still had interests in the mine

ah, I see where you found the info regarding his home in N.B. Here called John Y. McKane John Y. McKane - Mining Bio

His signature?

I don't see anything in newspaper regarding the country home in New Brunswick...
Perhaps this lady who did the mini bio might get a kick out of finding out for you?

A Nevada Newspaper account of John McKane

I am having a problem with the Y in John's name. There is a Senator in the US with the Name John Y McKane who is quite a bad apple.

Is this the same John? I had donesome research so I don't think so but the name's seem to be interchanged. His birth certificate shows no middle name or initial. He is my Great Uncle and I have a picture of a man who I think is John and I also have a picture of a woman with my Great Grandmother and Grandmother taking in Scotland. I would like to find a picture of Florence to see if it is her in the picture.

Thank you so much. I did not know about the hospital or the newspaper names. But the best find is Mrs. McKanes name. What a bonus.

I didn't read all through...which one had his wife's name? Did it say where she was from?

Are these the parents George McKane  Mary Johnston? https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY1V-RZF

There is a Florence M McCann showing in Alemeda California 1910 &1920 census , birth range 1872 to 1876 Canada

also found this site with a Florence Sinclair b. 1872 N.B. married to  John McKane, but can't find evidence of this marriage.

yay the FHS site wasn't showing me any results for a bit, maybe uploading files, but here she is I think as her mother living in the same household is Jane W. Sinclair!

1930 U.S. census Los Angeles California,  Florence S. McKane widow born 1874 Canada (immigration year not right as says 1914)

1881 census Newcastle, Northumberland, New Brunswick, Canada

her birth record 1873 parents Edward Sinclair and Jane Willard

Her father Edward died in 1901 he was a Lumber merchant which ties in with her wealth stated in one bio...

She died Feb. 18 1953 L.A. California the submitter is not a relative

Best to check all this, find an obit as not confirmed this is she...

You are correct. George and Mary are John's parents. I have their marriage and all of their children in Scotland.
