Helping hands helping one another with our family history & genealogy research.
Edward Nowak is my grandfather. I never knew him. He left his family about 1928.
This is what I have so far:
1920 Census NYC with wife Helen (Nolan) and sons James and Edward (my father)
Petition for Naturalization - says he emigrated from Libau, Russia (I think this is where the ship left from) 1900 on the vessel Patricia. Birth date Nov. 2, 1893. Granted Citizenship May 1920.
Military - May 1918 - Jan 1919. Received the only military records from NARA which was his last payment from Camp (Fort) Dix, NJ. He was in Co 7 153rd Depot Brigade, NY
WWII Draft Card - same birth date. Living in LIC (Long Island City) NY
Death - Sept 10, 1957 Buried in Long Island National Veterans Cemetery along with his second wife Mary Grace Duffy. I ordered Mary Duffy's SS application which she applied for in 1939 and she was still living at home with parents.
Found an FBI Investigation report on an Edward Nowak, NY, closed on Dec 10, 1918 as he could not be found. I have no idea if this is him or not. He was in the Military during the time of the investigation.
I would like to find where he lived before marrying in 1915. Who were his parents and where were they from. Something, anything about this man would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Barbara

I am looking for the family of Edward Nowak and Mary Grace Duffy. I am his grand daughter from his 1st wife Helen Nolan. Edward and Mary lived in Long Island City, Queens, NY. I am not sure when he married Mary Grace but I do know that they are buried in the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Thank you.
