Hello,
I am trying to find details on my Great Great Grandfather Alfred Montague I know his son (my Great Grandfather) Arthur Jefferson Montague had a son Archibald Jefferson Montague born 1904 in Harrow On The Hill, Middlesex, London, UK (my Grandfather's brother) went to Ontario, St. Catherines where he married Annie Hilda Stear in 1923.
I'm hoping someone out there will have information on Alfred via details on Archibald as following Arthur's path I am stuck in Bermuda.
Thanks,
Andy

Thanks very much and you are correct Archibald named his son after his Dad and I am now in conversing with Archibald's Grandson. Purely by coincidence I found the same connection due to passenger crossings between Canada and New York by Arthur (the Grandson) to see his Grandmother but knew the birth date was wrong and after all how many Arthur Jefferson Montague's can therre be. I then found the obituary on line and the funeral home put me in touch with my family over seas, although between us we're still yet to solve Alfred's details.
Thanks once again for your efforts they are appreciated.

Permalink Reply by Donna on June 3, 2012 at 1:12am Andy, could this be your Arthur Montague? I found this article about a Arthur Montague who died as a result of an injury. They provided a age at the time of his death which isn't always 100% correct but it would put his year of birth at approximately 1862

Permalink Reply by Donna on June 3, 2012 at 1:33am One thing I wanted to mention I keep finding info on a Robert Arthur Montague Baker connected to your family this man received a Medial of Honor the name just caught my attention could he be a grandson.
I thought the certificate of death for that Arthur that I posted early and his wife's name is Clementine.

Permalink Reply by Andy on June 3, 2012 at 6:13am Hello Donna,
Many thanks for your posts, I too have found references to an Arthur's death but dated 23rd November 1930, too much of a coincidence? My Arthurs wife was Fanny Frances King but who knows he may have remarried. I know my Arthur was born in St. Georges, Bermuda 5th November 1868 which was a military base, as far as I can tell, and I think the link to his Dad Alfred will be there. So far I have the family run from Arthur to me.
I don't know a Robert Arthur Montague Baker although there is a number of Bakers married into the Montague side.
Thanks once again.

Permalink Reply by Donna on June 3, 2012 at 8:05am I've attached a copy of the certificate of death for you. This said he was born 10 Aug 1870 in England. All it has for the father is A. Montague born in England. He's buried at St. John's Norway Cemetery which is about 10 minutes away from me, I just happen to have a copy of the Transcript for that Cemetery and found this Arthur in it. His wife's Clementina Bayliss is buried with him. I wasn't able to find another obit for this Arthur but maybe I can find one for Clementina and see if there is any mention of children.

Permalink Reply by Donna on June 3, 2012 at 8:34am Here's Clementine's obit they had two children according to it Dorothy and Arthur Victor. I think you are right that this is two different Arthur's.
I was following up because I helped a woman a while back find her grandfather her grandmother had told the family he had died when the children were very young but it turned out that the grandfather had left her for another woman, got married and had other children but the grandmother for whatever reason didn't want them to know maybe she was hurt, blamed herself for some reason but anyway she was able to fill in a lot of missing info so I thought I would check for you just in case something came up like that. Her grandmother also lied and said the grandfather was born in Canada when he was actually born in England. My point is sometimes they think they need to hides things so they make things and these stories get passed along to family. But it would appear we are talking about two different Arthur's according to your info.

I tried to reply yesterday but it would seem the reply was too long and it didn't upload.
In answer to your question yes I am after information on the parents of Arthur Jefferson Montague born 1868, all I know is that his name is Alfred as shown on Arthur and Fanny's marriage certificate.
I tried to reply with all the information I had on Arthur, Fanny and sons shown in your reply but it took too long to up load basically Frederick went to Australia and Archibald to Canada. Alfred George is my Granddad.
I have a number of Alfred's on a hit list that I am slowly ruling out based on a birth year of 1853 and before. One born in London and married a girl from Bermuda, another from England stationed in Bermuda (could be same person) another from Auckland, New Zealand stationed at Portsea, England to name a few. I'm betting the connection is the Royal Navy and Bermuda but it's tying Arthur into the equation with the various Alfreds I have found.
I tried to get Arthur's birth certificate from Bermuda but they have little or no information before 1900 and it is costly just to be told they cannot find a certificate so I am trying all other avenues i.e. forums to where the family has gone.
