I am researching my family that came from Wellington, Ontario. I have one ancestor, Margaret Ord, born 1828 in Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland and died in 1867 in Wellington, Ontario. I know my Gt. Aunt had a Cousin, John Ord that was doing some genealogy but that was back in the 1970's. Anyone know of any of these surnames?

Welcome to the Ontario Group Carol.

Was reading your post but not sure what information you are needing? I do have a subscription to Ancestry if you need some records looked up but will need names & dates.

Thank you for the offer. I just let my subscription to Ancestry lapse as I haven't had much time to do any research. I'm basically trying to find the parents of my 2nd great grandfather John McLarty 1817 - 1764 who died in Puslinch Twp, Wellington, Ontario. He came from Scotland but I don't know when. Married Euphemia McMaster in 1844 in Ontario. There are Ord's and Blacks in the family tree so thought if I could find someone (know there was a John Ord who was doing family history in  the 1970's with my Gt. Aunt Margaret McLarty Groleau as they were cousins. John lived in Ontario.)

I presume you mean  died in 1864? But he was still alive in 1871 I think so maybe you mean 1874. In a fast glance I didn't find him in 1881

Hi Carol

The 1881 Census has wife Euphemia widowed. So death of John was between 1871 & 1881. Unfortunatly I cannot locate a death for him.Do you know the siblings to John? May be of assistance in locating parents names for him.

Thank you so much for the listings of John and Euphemia. Unfortunately I don't have any information on John's siblings. I have Euphemia's information because one of her ancestors in the McMaster family did the genealogy and we communicated quite a few years ago. John & Euphemia's eldest son Archibald is a direct descendent to my Mother. It's been so frustrating. From what I've been able to gather, the cemetery that John was buried in was destroyed by a herd of cattle so there is no headstone either.

What cemetery is this? Have you contacted them to get any information they may have?

Hi Carol  On the Cemetery Index list, the McLarty family is buried at Mount View Cemetery in Cambridge, Ontario.

http://ogs.andornot.com/CemeteryIndex.aspx

Also including a link that maybe of some help in finding the death date for John McLarty and family members.

http://www.waterlooogs.ca/cemeteries.htm

Ancestry does have the death certificate for Euphemia and son Charles.Do you have the images for them,if not will send.

I will ask again what cemetery and where did the information come that the headstones were destroyed by a herd of cattle. Did the cemetery have any records or did you even contact them yourself.

I will ask again when did he die? You state above John McLarty 1817 - 1764 who died in Puslinch Twp, Wellington, Ontario. but we know he was alive in 1871. How do you know where he died if you dont have a death year?

Give us all you know and have to save people from the wild goose chase please

A Ted Monkhouse did some research for me back in 2002 and for the life of me, can't find all his notes. Will keep searching. Euphemia McMaster Mclarty, wife of John McLarty is buried in Mountview, Cambridge in Waterloo County from the one note I've found from him. He is the one that told me about the part of the cemetary where John was buried had been run over by cattle.

Yes, I meant to write 1874 for the death of John. Sorry. John & Euphemia had 11 children, 7 girls, 4 boys. Archibald (1852-7/9/1926) was my ancestor - the eldest son who married Margaret Ord Black (4/6/1867-3/3/1941) Both Archibald & Margaret are buried in Little Falls Cemetary, Washington, U.S.A. where my family homesteaded.

Thanks you so much for the two links!!

Hi Carol   Looks like MC53 maybe on to something,I have looked for John McLarty in 1874,could not locate anything.Unfortunely wife Euphemia death does not have a cemetery name.
