Hi  Just an update on the Giddings seems a Harry Giddings was a race horse trainer and as  my grandad has on his army papers he was a jockey, I think this is probably the right family, dont know why he went to Canada.  Would still like to find out a bit more and wondered would there be employment records and where would I find them,

Andrew Wylie (my grandad) b. 7th May 1897 Dumfries Scotland  went to Canada June 1912 (was on passenger list still to be verified) joined army CEF 1s Feb 1916 still awaiting army records, would like any info regarding his time in Canada and if there are any relatives, we think 2 of his sisters might have emigrated with him.

Thanks in advance Molly

Hi Al;

Yes I Googled it the other night what I wanted to know was could there be employment records so I could find out about my Grandad this is a part of his life we never knew about, but I will keep looking and thank you for your help.

Molly

Hello Molly,  I am the Great grandaughter of Harry Giddings, he was my mom's grandfather.  I am always looking for new information on him.  I have some great pictures that I took of the winners of the Queen Plate, (I took pictures of pictures hanging in the Hall of fame at Woodbine Racetrack) He still holds the record for the most wins.  There also is a book published called A Royal Tradition and it covers the racehorse owners and breeders from that era in including Harry Giddings and quotes.  It would probably meation jockeys who rode from him.  I know one name was Wilson.  I will be talking to a cousin of my mom's this summer, he will remember alot, he was around at that time.  I will ask for you.  Debbie

Hi Debbie

Thank you for your reply, any information you could find about my Grandad would be great we know so little of his time in Canada dont know why he chose to go there we wondered if he had a job offer from your Gt Grandad or if he was just lucky to get work there when he arrived, my aunt, his only surviving child now in her seventies never knew about her Dad being a jockey he had never mentioned it, so it would be great to tell her something of his life in Canada if I can. Hope you can help, and hope to hear from you soon.

Molly

Hello Molly, just thought I'd let you know I had a visit with Harry Giddings Jr. grandson.  But he does not recall any of the jockeys.  He is in his 80's now.  Good luck on your searches.  Debbie

Hello Molly, just thought I'd let you know I went through the book, The Plate, A Royal Tradition, and I don't see any mention of a jockey by your grandfathers name, only the winners of the Queen plates.  But it looks like Giddings did alot of travelling in Europe and around.  Maybe he did offer him a job.  In the next few weeks I will be talking a relative of Giddings who might remember who worked for him.  Seem to me when I was little my mom mentioning Giddings bring back stable boys from down south to work for him, so maybe he did come back with him.  I will let you know if I heard anything more.  Debbie

Moved over here so I could delete the other

Thanks
