Helping hands helping one another with our family history & genealogy research.
I wonder if anyone can help me to decipher what a name is on a birth registration form. It reads that the birth mother's married name is Agnes Campbell, then the maiden name is written MS Nicol.....and there's my problem. If MS is the first 2 intials what happened to the name Agnes? It is done in cursive writing and since both letters are the same size I don't think it is Mc.
Any suggestions? Thank you, in advance, for any help you may have to offer.

Hi Ellen, Can you upload a copy to you message so we can look at it??? Might be able to make it clearer in photoshop.
Thanks for responding. I asked Vital Statistics their opinion and they wrote they "think it is Miss/Ms Nicol". I didn't think they used that in the 1920s....but who knows! I will upload a copy of the certificate and would certainly appreciate your opinion.
I really believe that it is MS - it is quite clear - and I have seen it used before in Scotland
Hi, went to chat and just missed you. Good to know you've seen it used before, makes me feel much more confident to use it as a title and not initials. Thanks again for your help.
MS = Maiden Surname - seen in column heading of jpeg.
Thanks Col. Good eyes makes research a whole lot easier..:)
