Thomas married Agnes Dinwoodie Daughter of James Dinwoodie and Elspeth Charters b 16 Apr 1803 Johnstone, Dumfriesshire

Thomas French Son of Simeon French and Ann Corrie b 1 Jun 1808 Wamphray, Dumfriesshire

According to the information in which i have put together i believe Simeon to be the father of Thomas.  ( fingers crossed )

I would like to confirm this information and if correct, trace these roots back as far as possible, as far as Thomas is concerned.

These are the 4 children that Thomas and Agnes had together in Scotland before immigrating to Canada.

James 30 Dec 1825 Johnstone

Janet 10 Feb 1828 Lochmaben

Elizabeth 28 Mar 1830 Lochmaben

Jean 2 Dec 1832 Lochmaben.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for viewing my post.

I think your going to have to look for the place he was born and try contacting them.

Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths began in Scotland on 1st January 1855. For details of these records and indexes to them, see our GRO tutorial and our Scotland Civil Registration page.

Court Records

Records of testaments, inventories etc. are held at the Scottish Record Office, in the records of the Dumfries Commissariot Court (before 1823) and the Dumfries Sheriff Court (after 1823).

or:

Church Records

For information on parish registers (baptisms, marriages and burials) for a particular parish, please see that parish's page (where available).

General advice on parish registers throughout Scotland can be found on our Scotland Church Records page. The Kirk Session records of a parish can be useful source material and are often overlooked by researchers. The Kirk Session consists of the minister of the parish together with the elders of the congregation. Its role is largely to look after the general wellbeing of the congregation and, particularly in centuries past, parochial discipline. Most Kirk Session records are held in the Scottish Record Office in Edinburgh and can be fascinating reading.

again you would have to contact the proper Towns in Scotland to verify

Thank you very much for all of your research and help.  Is there any other site I could look at to find Simons father.  I know his name is Thomas but when I check thru family search I cannot find a Thomas with a child by the name of Simon.  Also, how can i find out the spouse of Thomas, for it is not listed.  I don't know if this information would be on Scotland's People but is there anywhere else that you know of as to where i may continue searching.  While i have your ear, even if i keep uncovering generations of Frenchs, will this information lead me to our grass roots or which larger family or clan , if any , we belong to.  Is there any way of contacting living members of my family still residing there.  Sorry for being a pest, just anxious to find more information.  Once again, thank you for your time.
Not being pesky at all.. let me look around,  for other sites that might lend an ear/hand. I would think you could contact cousins once you nail down family.
Thanks again , any source you can come up with would be very much appreciated.

I found the following:

http://www.british-towns.net/sc/level_4_display.asp?GetL3=11382

You will notice to the left there is a Community Notice board..., it free to sign up, now I would post on the

Graffiti on the wall in the Community of Eskdalemuir

rather than the social network board...I know folks who have had some luck doing it.they have connected with someone who is linked with family.

or a better site yet:

Scotland can be very difficult as most of the info belongs to the UK site...and unless you have exact info it can get pricey.

Incidently, when did they come to Canada and where in Canada? I am wondering if I can find a death record for Thomas that might list his parents.

According to my information they emigrated no later than 1836 for they had a son named David born March 5, 1836,  They eventually settled in Ontario in an area just north what is now Napanee.  The other children that they had over here were, Thomas- Dec 25 , 1838; Agnes- May 18, 1841; John- March 20 1846; William- Oct 18 1844 (my line).  Now according to the 1851 census Agnes is a widow, so Thomas must have past on somewhere between 1846 and 1851.  I have found the grave marker of Agnes but could not find one for Thomas nor any record of his death.  Thanks again, let me know if you need any other info I will give you whatever i have.

I will see what we can unearth, most likey they are at rest in the same place..the reason he might not have a stone is simple $ as a widow she would not have necessarily had the resources to buy a stone for him, if he died  before 1851 then she had small children in the home, a stone would not have been a priority. if you know where she is resting, contact that cemetery and ask them to ck their records to see if he's there.
