Trying to determine where the Sleaths who lived in Staffordshire and Shropshire in the 1700 and 1800's originated. Are they connected to the Sleaths who lived in Leicestershire. I have been able to trace back to Benjamin Sleath who is buried at Bloxwich in the late 1700's. I have found only one son, a William from Church Eaton, from which my family descends. In later times, my grandmother, Sarah Jane Sleath goes to Claybrooke Magna, LEI to work at Claybrooke Hall as a Parlour Maid. She marries John Thomas Perkins in 1901. Her brother Richard serves with the British Army in India from  around 1892 and is discharged in Calcutta in 1902. He marries there, but dies shortly, as about 6 years later, I find his widow has remarried. Another brother, Jack marries a Clara Annie Shotton and in 1907 emigrates to Red Deer, AB Canada. Other brothers, George, Thomas and Samuel stay in Staffordshire. Does anyone have connections to this branch of the Sleath family. Louise Perkins

Weezie, Worried that your Sleeth in Staffs.(spelt so) are no relation to the core Sleaths in Leicestershire.

Hi. Yes, these Sleeth's do vary in the spelling of the name in the early years. Benjamin Sleeth marries Mary Quinton in 1753 in Abotts Bromley. The only child I can find is William Sleeth born at Church Eaton in 1769 and he marries Elizabeth Beeston in 1799 from Cheswardine. Their children are all Sleith's and are christened at Church Eaton, Satffordshire. The next generations and my great grandfather become Sleath's. George Sleath is born at Hinstock, son of John Sleith. From then on, they stay Sleath's. I was looking at Sleeth's in Shenstone in the early 1700's as his (Benjamin )parents, but nowhere can I find a Benjamin under any spelling variation. Maybe this Staffordshire group moved away from Leicestershire in the 1500 and 1600's and were established before the spelling was finalized. Louise

Forgot, Benjamin and his wife Mary are buried at Blowich Staff, he in 1798 and Mary in 1788. My Sleath's all come from around here, Rushall, Wolverhampton and  Streethay, Lichfield and a number are buried at Church Eaton, Staff.

Oh,dear! Becoming more complicated. My main research has been The Sleaths. I do have a slight possibility in Leics; In 1665 Benjamin Sleath was born to Thomas and Marjery in Gilmorton. By 1698 Marjery is a widow and living in Husband's Bosworth where son Benjamin and his wife Mary - and issue live. Marjery's Inv.and Probate Will say she left £18-6-0. Ben and Mary have son William b.1707, Mary b.1709 and Thomas b.1711.After this date I haven't recorded anymore on this family. Did they stay in that village? or maybe move away from Leics;. Not sure. Will look in my records(paper) Christian names were often repeated so Ben (Staffs;) may be of the Leics; lot. If so, you and I are very distantly related!!!!!!
