Helping hands helping one another with our family history & genealogy research.
This is a followup from a suggestion by Larzus to my discussion about improving the forum.
In the replies, could you please list up to five books (or more if you want) you have at home that you would be prepared to do look ups for others. Make sure you mention what the book is about eg soldiers, sailors, convicts, free settlers etc and if the book is indexed.

Permalink Reply by larzus on May 26, 2012 at 2:00am My books about Tassie:
Pioneer Shipping L Norman 1958 "Whailing, Sealing, Piracy, Shipwrecks, etc. in Early Tasmania". Indexed for some people, vessels, inns/taverns. A huge amount of anecdotal and factual information, with a lot of early stories.
Sea Wolves and Bandits L Norman 1946 "Sealing, Whaling, Smuggling and Piracy. Wild Men of Van Diemen's Land, Bushrangers and Bandits, Wrecks and Wreckers". Subject index only but I know where to find a lot of things.
Convicts and Carriageways The Historical Committee of the Dept of Main Roads, Tasmania. 1988 All about the making of Tassie's roads with eye witness excerpts and pictures of travels through the years. From the tracks of the first settlements, bridges, accidents, convict work, councils etc etc. Indexed by locality with a few names. Gives the flavour of a district more than actual genealogical use. Lots of good stuff clearly written by engineers and not writers.
Historic New Norfolk Series IV and V New Norfolk Council's Historical & Information Centre 1990 A list of burials and inscriptions from the Stephen St, North Circle and some St George of Ease, Lachlan.
Highway in Van Diemen's Land 1968 G Hawley Stancombe. History of the Midlands Highway. The old good Midlands Hwy .... anyone from Tassie will remember it. Index contains names of people and places.
The Tasmanian Traveller A Nineteenth Century Companion For Modern Travellers Hilary Webster 1988 Excerpts from letters and diaries. First hand accounts of various journeys. Indexed by locality and name.
Bushlife In Tasmania James Fenton 1989 Mostly about the north - Launceston, Carrick etc. Small index, book of many pages.
I'll have to scour the shelves for the others.
