Helping hands helping one another with our family history & genealogy research.
Good evening all.
My name is Paul Cressingham, I live in the UK and I'm wondering if there's someone out there that will be able to help solve one small part of a larger mystery for me... I have for some time now been trying to break down a stubborn, reinforced concrete and very sledgehammer resistant brickwall concerning one Quartermaster & Hon. Lt.-Col. Hugh Montrein Cressingham DSO DCM of the Bedforshire Regt and his history prior to 1882. here in the UK.
Just recently I have come into posession of some private papers & letters belonging to his only daughter Lylie Montrein Cressingham and her husband Lucius Eugene Baerle Van Baerle. In amongst them is a letter written to Lucius dated 13th July 1936 regarding a "Margaux and her boys".
Margaux at that time is in a hospital, (mental home in the non PC 1930s language of the letter) and the boys are being cared for in the same institution. One of the boys is named as Michael and the institution is later named in the letter as Wanganui Hospital and her affairs are being handled by a Public Trustee.
I have trawled the commercial genealogy sites and think that maybe the Margaux in question might be Margaux Cranston Oldridge (nee Van Baerle) and one of the sons is Michael Hood Van Baerle Oldridge. I've found an arrival in New Zealand 1927 on the ship Mooltan of a Mrs Margaux Oldridge. But I cannot find any trace of a husband or indeed a second son. and I can only find a couple of other records for Margaux (who's proper given name might be Marjory) and only one for Michael.
I'm getting very confused by this little conundrum and the lack of information I can find to give substance to the letter and wonder if there's anyone out there that can help me 'flesh out the bones'
Thanks in advance and best regards
Paul........

listed under birth December quarter 1918: Oldridge, Michael H van B / district Milton volume 2a p.1485
Birth March quarter 1920 for Oldridge Anthony B v B / Guildford district v.2a p.234
The 1917 marriage, Epsom, to Margery C B "Baerle" shows a middle initial H. for her husband... birth for a Bernard (Harry) Oldridge 1891 Kingston

Permalink Reply by Jeanyalogy on January 28, 2013 at 9:36am You had found her alone, perhaps back for a family visit, as all four travelled earlier, must have been just after the birth of Anthony... 1927 London to Wellington New Zealand...You can find them *HERE* as Bernard, Margaux, Antony & Michel

Wow.... Thanks for that. I think I must have become word blind or something, to have missed all of that information.... I'll put it down to old age on my part......
That's a great help and I think that more or less starts to tie up that little section of my mystery and adds a few more people into my tree, that may or may not bear fruit in the bigger picture.
So once again; Many thanks for your time and interest.
Very best regards.
