Permalink Reply by Ted on January 3, 2013 at 4:06am Aha. I am still getting used to this site. My Grandfather was John Joseph Ryan and his sister Mary Johannah married an O'Donnell in Greymouth. I have quite a few O'Donnell names but I am having trouble connecting who is who and how they are connected. There was another Ryan brother - William - who also lived near Greymouth at a place called Kokiri. I would welcome any information on them.
Permalink Reply by dave on January 3, 2013 at 2:31pm still getting used to the site myself. I am following the line of Thomas Patrick Odonnell and Mary Ann Slattery. Both born in Clonmel, Co Tipperary. Married in Greymouth in 1868 In St Patricks catholic church. It is the eldest son William who was my grandfather. Of the 7 children listed for Thomas and Mary Ann, not including infants who died young and stillborn for Thomas Patrick and Mary Ann is Thomas Jnr known as Tim. This is the Thomas you would be looking at. He married Mary Ryan in Greymouth and their Children names given to me were John(Jack) manager of westland breweries. Thomas a Marist brother Br Mark, and Maureen who married someone called Moore. These were my fathers cousins. I can understand your frustration in tracing Odonnells in Greymouth as there were several familes of this name. This information was given to me by my fathers cousin about 20years ago and she would have been cousins to Jack Thomas and Maureen. . She was an old lady then when I visited her in Greymouth but she was the unofficial family historian. I do not have any dates for you as I was Following a different line. I met Br Mark when he was in retirement also about 20 yeras ago at Marcellin school in Auckland but he had spent so much time out of Nz as a teacher in the Islands mostly Fiji and didnt know much family history. All that generation are gone now. I hope this is of some help dave
