You say that you have traced Richard Cutt back to 1751 in Royston, Yorkshire. Do you have his baptism record yet? That would at least give you the name of his father and possibly his occupation though that is not the rule. At that time frame there is a very good chance the forename of the mother would be included. I see that the LDS does have the parish registers for Royston available and they may be very well worth viewing. Depending on his occupation it may also be worth your whie to view any other church records that could be available. You state this family lived in this area for quite a period of time. And did you view the actual registers or just Archbisops or Bishops transcripts. I know the origional registers do often contain way more information than the transcripts did. If Richard had siblings have you tried to trace them back as to see what information they may contain. With what you have posted it is very hard to give you some advice other than what I stated above.

Forgive me in trying to pick your brains. As I'm fairly new to this game I'm not sure where I can get the baptism record for Richard -is it the church or the local records office? I don't know if Richard had any siblings, nor do I know how to find out. Appreciate any more detail on your welcome suggestions.....

I see that you live in the Norwich area so I am sure that there is a familyhistory there. I looked up the address and its located at 19 Greenways, Eaton, Norwich and the phone number is 44 0 160-345 2440. Now if you go to familysearch.org and click on the library catalog tab and enter Royston on the place tab then you will see all the records they have for this area. They do have church regsiters that cover the time frame you looking at. They will bring in the film for you to view for a small fee in Canada they cost $6.00 Canadian and they stay at the center for a month. You can extend the loan period to indefinate by paying the fee 3 times, I am sure that the local center will explain everything to you. I always used to print out the page with  the references of the film on it and take it to the center so there would be no mistake. You will find most centers are very helpful and I am sure pursuing the parish registers may open up more opportunities to trace the family back further the key is Richard's baptism.

I found the LDS family history centre in Norwich. It's run by a couple of retired old boys who were very helpful. I found the baptism record for Richard Cutt 1751 on microfiche. It shows only his father, who is a "Ric'd" (presumably another Richard). It gives no further detail.

I know I can order the film but should I expect the film to show any more detail? I was told that the film is only the original scripted information that is the basis of the fiche. As always, any advice appreciated - and thanks again for your help so far.

In that time frame it was very common for the baptism record to only include the  father. The only advantage bringing in the microfilm is to see if you can find a marriage for the father in the years preceding Richard's baptism. It would also enable you to find his siblings. As names were passed down it would not be uncommon to have 2 Richard Cults baptizing children in the same parish around the same time. If the microfiche was just a transcription then I would be sure to bring in the actual image of the parish registers for my proof and also to help build the family structure for his parents.
