Prince Edward Island, Canada Civil Registration Information
Prince Edward Island joined the national system of vital statistics in 1920. However, records were kept prior to this to this date: 1840, began recording births; 1886, began registration of marriages; 1906, it became mandatory to register births and deaths; 1920, began registration of stillbirths; 1930, began registration of adoptions; 1946, began registration of divorces.
Responsible for the collection, registration, maintenance and dissemination of vital event information, which includes births, deaths, stillbirths, adoptions, marriages, divorces, and change of name.
