Charles

Hello Everyone:I’m looking for information on a Charles Henry Cooke or Cook born in Toronto on 6 Apr 1931. His parents died when he was very young and he was sent to live with his Aunt, there was some family conflict so he left their home around 1948 when he was only 14 or 15.  He never showed up for his sister wedding in 1949 but someone from his family spoke to him in Feb 1949 they believe he may have been working on an Oil Tanker or enlisted in the Navy.  His parents are Amy and Thomas…See More

Profile Information

A Little About Me
I have been researching my family history for about 7 years now give or take a year. I have found a lot of information on my family and have learned a lot so I have been sharing my experience and help others with their searches when I can.
Names I Research & their locations .... (please be specific here)
Some of the surnames I'm researching are Borden, Begley, Belbeck, Bowering, Devonshire, Murray, Phillips, Wilson, White, Stirton, Devitt/Deavitt, Eaton, Dougherty, Boone, Webb, McArthur.
I got started researching my family history ......
I started researching my family history about 7 years or it could be longer.
I have been doing genealogy since ....
More than 5 years
We all have them - my biggest brick wall is .......
My great-mothers side of the family, her name was Margaret Dougherty, her parents were Charles Dougherty and Margaret Eaton. I'm told that Margaret Eaton is related to Timothy Eaton but I haven't found any proof to confirm that yet. The family of Timothy Eaton is well documented however there doesn't appear to be any other info on my Margaret Eaton, its possible her parents could be George Eaton (possible Uncle of Timothy) and Mary McKay.

Perhaps because Samuels family weren't 'blood' relatives?? they were trying to trace Mauds' family.  As far as I know Ernest Hotson is not a relative of Maud/Daisy.  Her estate consisted of a house, some jewellery, furniture & a few other things.  I have thought about trying to trace the children of Peter & Kathleen Thornton to see if there is anyone still alive who might know of Maud or stories of her!

The papers state that Maud Todd left no will, codicil and as her husband had already died and they had no children it quotes 'names & addresses of heirs at present unknown'.  It would seem that the Public Trustee administered the estate - it's dated 10th Jan 1949.  I do know that an advert was put in a national paper here in England looking for relatives of Maud - approx 1950/1952 I think, but none of my elderly relatives know for sure. Maud had lost touch with her sister Daisy, who was also sent to Canada but we cannot find any trace of her - marriage, children or death!!!

Hi Donna  Just wanted to say thank you for your help with Maud Hotson (todd).  I have just received her records from Barnardo's which are very interesting.  Can I ask another question please - I have copies Mauds' estate papers sent to me from Ministry of Gov Archives, Ontario but she didn't leave a will and had NO KNOWN HEIRS.  Do you know where I would look next to find out what happened to her estate? Cathy

Are you connected with the BORDEN line that went from Mississippi to Texas in the 1800's? Gail BORDEN was of this line. HIs first wife Penelope MERCER was a cousin of mine (am not at my home right now so I can't access my database) .. she was 5th Cousin of some 'flavor' (my Grandmother was a MERCER) so I am blood related to the descendants of their children
