- A Little About Me
- My relatives came from Surrey and Yorkshire to Ontario. My My father, born in Toronto came to Chicago in 1910 at age 7 with his parents. I was born in Chicago IL 1932. So, I am a first generation American. My mother abandoned the family in my second year of life. I was brought to South Elgin, Il to live with my grandparents.
- Names I Research & their locations .... (please be specific here)
- Hobbs, Groves. Trying to fill a gap 1851-1867. Frederick Hobbs, youngest son of James Hobbs and Frances Mary (formerly Jones) Frederick born 1844 Chelsea.
Family together in 1841 Surrsey census. James died, the 1851 census shows Frances now married to John Ashby and living in Lambeth with both families. Unable to find family in 1861 census. Next found Frederick in the Oshawa Vindicator newspaper in Durham County Ontario that published a snippet, "Birth in Oshawa on the 19th instant, the wife of Frederick Hobbs. (second born Frederick James) Between 1851 in Surrey and 1867 in Oshawa Frederick married Rebecca Groves and had one son William born England 1865. I have been unable to find a marriage record for Frederick & Rebecca or a birth record of William. William was killed in Toronto 1886 but his death certificate yealded nothing of value. A William Groves and wife Rebecca emmigrated to Bowmanville 1850. I believe Frederick's wife is daughter but no proof. My brick wall is where was Hobbs family from 1851 Surrey and 1867 Oshawa, Ontario?

- When my father died in 1983 I started research. Fortunately I had my father fill me on on many old photos and some history shortly before his passing but didn't say much about my mother. I have'nt been able to trace her. I know she was living in Chicago 1962.

- I have two brick walls. What happened to my mother? As stated above the gap of Hobbs family from 1851in Surrey to 1867 in Oshawa, Ontario Canada.
- By joining Looking 4 Kin I hope to .....
- There are two things (priorities)that elude me; the gap between 1851 Surrey and 1867 Ontario. The second is what happened to my mother who was still live and kicking in Chicago in 1962. All my efforts have left me still searching. I hope to fill those dark holes.

Henry Jones and Mary (Martha) I got thru a researcher in Surrey a few years ago. He also found the 1841 and 1851 census on the Hobbs family. I know, it gets complicated."

Searching for a Hobbs family member
Henry Jones, spouse Martha (Mary) had three children, Robert John Jones b; c1801, Frances Mary Jones b; 30 Jan 1804, Henry Jones b; c 1803. Searching for a Sarah Jones Married to John Hobbs. Is Sarah another sibling or perhaps a cousin? John may be a cousin to James Hobbs my ggrandfather married to Frances Mary Jones January 1804.
