Roney and Sturgeon
My mother's maiden was Roney. She says the family tradition is that the Roneys were from County Down. Also she says there was a set of brothers that first came and they were named Rooney but they had a fallinf out and one droped on "O" from his name and he is our ancestor. But, when I did a general search in Ireland, County Down I found both Roney and Rooney. Sturgeon in Whepstead, near Bury St. Edmunds
Hello, I am researching my Sturgeon ancestors. It is said that we were Norman knights that were granted a title and lands in Whepstead, Suffolk county.I was in contact with a fellow that lived near there once and he was going to send me the address of people that were remodleing the church in Whepstead. Hello, I am researching my family, Sturgeon. We are ScotsIrish, having moved to Ireland from the lowlands of Scotland during the "plantations". Can anyone assist me in finding these ancestors? I found a book listed in our library here in Cincinnati, Ohio, but it has been stolen or someone always has it checked out, I have never been able to get it. They can't find it either. Yesterday I made contact with a person on GenesReunited.co.uk who had a William Henry HIBBARD b c 1904 and would you believe it he had only entered the name for a friend in America.
This is my cousin and I now hope to get an address to contact the American relly.
Noraus on Looking$kin has been a great help in tracing William's arrival in the US and census for me. She is a great help to a lot of folk.
