My mother's maiden was Roney. She says the family tradition is that the Roneys were from County Down. Also she says there was a set of brothers that first came and they were named Rooney but they had a fallinf out and one droped on "O" from his name and he is our ancestor. But, when I did a general search in Ireland, County Down I found both Roney and Rooney. Hello, I am researching my Sturgeon ancestors. It is said that we were Norman knights that were granted a title and lands in Whepstead, Suffolk county.I was in contact with a fellow that lived near there once and he was going to send me the address of people that were remodleing the church in Whepstead.
