Hensley/Miracle/Fox

I'm looking to find family in the Harlan County area. I have a nice long history (some parts traced to Elizabethan Era Germany), but I'd really like to find living family. My father's people are from the Harlan region in KY and I have no real access due to the fact that my father is a bit of a recluse and my aunts don't seem to want to be helpful. I almost feel black sheepish. My grandparents lived in Harlan in the mid 20th century. Della Marie (Hensley) Fox (1924 - 1992) was married to Elmer…See More

Hi Beth!

I haven't been able to get so far back with my Merkels-Merkel is my maiden name but I've only gotten to the 1700's with them.  My group arrived in the US in 1873.  They came from Baden-Wuerttemberg at that time.  I haven't been able to find anything before that.  My tree is on Ancestry.com if you'd like to look at it.  I've had a lot more success with all of the other families since I made my profile on here.  I'd love to see what you have.  I'm sure that the Merkels came to Baden from somewhere else.

I can't remember the exact age - I'd have to dig through what I found and saved for you. I'm sure it's him. He had the same first, middle and last name, plus the same DOB. I found a few census records and a marriage record from a church, if you'd like to see it. I'm sure you have all of that, though. Let me know. Sorry I took so long and don't have more time now. I should be back on regularly in the next day or so. Happy hunting! :)

Hey,

Just thought I'd let you know that I was typing to you in chat, but my messages weren't going through. I had found George Buckley Wilson's draft registeration card that he filled out in Pa. Looks like he had a Mrs. Harriett Wilson(?) as nearest relative. Not sure if I read it right. It also looks like he has Electrical Engineer down as occupation.
