I have hit a brickwall and could use a hint or out-right help.Joannes Czekaj ( Americanized John Checki) was born abt 1832 in Eastern Europe. There is some confusion whether he came from Germany, Prussia, or PolandHe ended up in Seneca, Wisconsin before the 1905 Wisconsin censusI believe his relative in Wisconsin is Martin Checki. same county ( Green Lake ) in Wisconsin. Martin was born in Gluschyn, Posen, PolandI have Martin's immigration info but cannot find John. I have checked all the pages…See More

Have any of you encountered immigration papers stating only the name of 1 person in the family as on board when you know there were probably several family members along with ? Do you just assume they all came along at same time? Sometimes the un-included  may also be adults like adult brothers &/or sisters See More

A Little About Me
I am 63 and do genealogy research as a hobby. I have found tons of records on LDS but now am looking for Last Will and Testament of English relatives, mostly around Uttoxeter
Names I Research & their locations .... (please be specific here)
Warde in Uttoxeter
I got started researching my family history ......
When my daughter got a free 2 week subscription to Ancestry
I have been doing genealogy since ....
5 years+
We all have them - my biggest brick wall is .......
Finding the Last Wills of long-deceased relatives
By joining Looking 4 Kin I hope to .....
trace my ancestors back to Adam and Eve with all pertinent documents

prussia

Am also doing research in Prussia, East and West. It is also called Poland; I suppose the difference is caused by the time period you are working in. Am looking for Czekaj ( Checki) in West Poland, Poznan Province around Gluszyna.

In East Prussia my missing link is Adalbert Pepowski, born in 1820's. There are 1 or 2 towns in the area that contain many Czekaj references. Getting the microfilm and researching is probably the most viable course.
