Hi - I am from Christchurch, New Zealand and am researching my great grandfather's birth place. He is Thomas John McEntyre and his marriage/ death certificates says his birth place was Laoy, Cavan, Ireland. He was born approx 1832 and left Ireland in the mid 1800s . We cannot locate Laoy. While we have a large family tree for Thomas ' s off spring in NZ, we come to a dead end with the Cavan connection. We think he had brothers come over with. Him but cn ind no trace of them. Can anyone help?…See More

I live in New Zealand and am researching several family lines - Lynch (Waterford), Delargey (Antrim), McEntyre (Cavan), Forde (Galway), Ftizgerald (Limerick), Curtin (Clare) and Higgins (Glaway). These are either my great grand parents or great great grandparents born in Ireland and emograted to New Zealand in the early to mid 1800s. I have extensive family trees for the Lee, Forde and McEntyre lines in NZ.
Names I Research & their locations .... (please be specific here)
Thomas John McEntyre - County Cavan, Ireland
Mary Curtin - Miltown Malbay, Clare, Ireland
Archibald Edward Delargey - Ballymena, Antrim, Ireland
Bridget Fitzgerald - Shannagolden, Limerick
Peter Forde, Annaghdown, Galway, Ireland
Bridget Higgins, Galway, Ireland
Andrew Lee, Roscommon, Ireland
Ann McGowan, Roscommon, Ireland
I got started researching my family history ......
Got started in 1988 and have been doing it on and off since then. I was raised with many family stories etc. Recently since the earthquakes in Christchurch, NZ, I have returned to the research and involved my parents -the quakes made me value this history - so easy to lose it all in one big disaster
I have been doing genealogy since ....
about 24 years
We all have them - my biggest brick wall is .......
Finding the place that one of my great grandfather lists in marriage and deaths records as his birtplace - Laoy, Cavan.
Other than that, I want to be able to locate the birth or baptism records for each of my great grandparents.
