I recently discovered that my Great Grandmother Susan Mowen may have had a sister Elizabeth. Elizabeth was married to John McGinnis and they had a son Patrick who died in July of 1895 in New York City. There may have also been a a brother Michael who had a wife named Mary - they too lived in New York City during this time frame.See More

I am trying to track down my great-grandparents. Tradition says they were both from Donegal.I have been unable to find any documentation for them prior to the 1880 U.S. Census. Cornelius “Neal” McGowan (born 1850?) and Susan Mowen (born 1856) had 13 children all born in New York City, U.S.A. Susan’s death certificate says her mother was Mary Mc Aloon. Trying to locate Cornelius McGowan (born -/+1850) don't know when he immegrated to U.S. but first record I have for him is 1880 NYC Census. At that time he was married Susan Mowen and they had one child 5 mos Patrick. Family verbal history says they both came from Donegal. I believe I found a record of Susan Mowen's passage from Moville, Ireland via the SS Bolivia 05/20/1875 at age 19. Can not find any record of my great-grandfather Cornelius McGowan (1849/50), other than his death certificate which doesn't provide any information other than his father was Cornelius. Family handed down info says he was from Donegal.
